I recently visited the Parksville, British Columbia Sand Sculpting Competition & Exhibition and saw this lovely sandcastle by Delayne Corbett. The sculpture shows four Canadian buildings: the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, the Peace Tower in Ottawa, the CN Tower in Toronto, and a grain elevator, representative of the prairies. The caption reads "Roots". Although I don't think the sculptor necessarily had genealogy in mind, I certainly did! The tree roots spiralling into iconic Canadian landmarks resonated with me as a depiction of how our ancestors from all different backgrounds worked together to build Canada. If you are in Parksville this summer, be sure to visit the exhibition- it is fantastic.
