Walking the Land

November 12, 2014

There is nothing quite as special to a genealogist as "Walking the Land"- that is, visiting the actual spot where our ancestors lived.  Or, even if you can't narrow it down that closely, walking the land of the neighbourhood, or the churchyard where they could have walked themselves generations before.  It gives me tingles up my spine to think of the possibilities. Even the roads in Ireland, although obviously made with gravel of a newer vintage, are generally in the same places as they were over 100 years ago.  You can see this for yourself by using old Irish land valuation maps and comparing them with the Google maps of today.
